The Citizen Security Strengthening Programme (CSSP) agreement was signed in February 2015 and commenced implementation in December of the said year. It is a project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) as a loan initiative for a total cost of US$15 million.
The CSSP project is being implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Project Implementation Unit (PIU) led by Mr. Vishraj Singh with IADB oversight.
This project seeks to build on the results and experiences of the preceding Citizen Security Project (CSP). The CSSP project’s emphasis will be to contribute to a reduction in crime and violence in Guyana through a comprehensive approach that combines preventive strategies with institutional strengthening activities. While continued attention will be placed on the provision of efficient and sustainable support services, direct technical support will also be given to the Guyana Police Force, the Guyana Prison Service and at Community level.
Also present are Heads of Department from the Guyana Police Force, Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration Support Services, General Registers Office of Guyana (GRO), Special invitees and other Stakeholders.
