The Government of Guyana today commissioned the new Ekereku Police Station in Region Seven, sending a strong and unmistakable message: this administration is systematically correcting decades of uneven development and ensuring that every community benefits from security, investment, and state presence.
Delivering the feature address, Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Oneidge Walrond positioned the initiative as part of a broader political mandate, one rooted in fairness, inclusion, and decisive governance.
โ€œThis is what it means to govern with purpose. We are not waiting for development to trickle into our hinterland, we are driving it there. We are ensuring that no Guyanese community is invisible, ignored, or left to fend for itself.โ€
Constructed at a cost of approximately $62.5 million, the new facility significantly strengthens law enforcement capacity, enhances response times, and establishes a permanent and professional security presence in Ekereku.
The commissioning forms part of an aggressive, results-driven $2 billion security expansion across Region Seven, reconstructing stations at Imbaimadai, Kamarang, and Kurupung, establishing a new Divisional Headquarters, and expanding marine assets in Bartica.
Minister Walrond made it clear that these interventions are not symbolic, they represent a fundamental shift in governance philosophy.
โ€œFor too long, development followed a narrow path. That era is over. We are building a Guyana where the reach of the State is felt equally, from the coast to the hinterland, from the capital to the most remote communities. This is deliberate, this is strategic, and this is leadership in action.โ€
The impact is already measurable. Serious crime in Regional Police Division #7 has declined by 30 percent between January and April 2026, with a 157.1 percent clear-up rate, evidence that sustained investment, modern policing, and firm leadership are delivering results.
โ€œThis is the difference between talk and transformation. While others debate, we deliver. While others critique, we build. And the people of this country are seeing and benefiting from that difference every single day.โ€
The Minister reaffirmed that the Government will continue to act decisively to protect citizens and expand opportunity nationwide.
โ€œThis station is not an act of charity, it is an act of justice. It reflects a Government that understands its duty and has the political will to act. And we will continue to deliver, because the people of Guyana deserve nothing less.โ€
The Government of Guyana remains resolute in advancing its national security transformation, strengthening institutions, and delivering on its promise of One Guyana, a nation united not just in words, but in action, investment, and shared progress.
