Improved security in Region Seven is no longer just a policy objective, it is becoming a lived reality for communities across the Region.
Through sustained investment in police infrastructure, expanded operational resources, and measurable improvements in law enforcement outcomes, the Government of Guyana is strengthening public safety in hinterland and riverain communities where geography has traditionally posed significant challenges to policing.
From Ekereku to Kamarang to Bartica, the physical presence and operational reach of the Guyana Police Force are being significantly expanded, with tangible results already emerging on the ground.
For the period January 1 to April 19, 2026, Regional Police Division #7 recorded a 30 percent decrease in serious crime during the same period. The Division achieved an overall clear-up rate of 157.1 percent, reflecting not only progress in resolving current cases but also the detection and closure of matters from previous years.
In relation to the Police Officersโ€™ Living Quarters in Kamarang, valued at $97.2 million, the Minister emphasized the importance of investing in the welfare of ranks serving in remote locations.
โ€œWhen officers are properly accommodated, they are better able to serve. And when they serve better, communities grow stronger, safer, and more secure.โ€
In Bartica, the Government has also strengthened marine policing capabilities through the construction of a new Boat House at a cost of $34 million. This facility includes a watchtower, ramp, and a fixed walkway, all designed to support safer and more efficient deployment of police vessels along key riverain routes.
โ€œThis is development with purpose. This is infrastructure designed not merely to exist but to function,โ€ Minister Walrond stated.
Today’s commissioning stands as more than a milestone.
It is a statement.
A statement that this government will continue to invest in security.
A statement that hinterland communities matter.
And a statement that those who serve must be supported with dignity.
I commend all those who made this project possibleโ€”our engineers, contractors, planners, and members of the Guyana Police Force.
As the Government continues to expand public investment in national security, Region Seven stands as a clear example of how targeted, strategic development, strengthened frontline resources, and sustained institutional support can deliver safer communities, increased public confidence, and greater access to essential services across Guyanaโ€™s hinterland.
