On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Robeson Benn, M.P., attended the Guyana Fire Service opening ceremony of the first Sub Officers’ Conference 2023 at the Guyana Fire Service Headquarters on Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.

The two-day conference is being held under the theme “Improving Performance through Education and Training”, and is aimed at re-establishing the roles, functions, and duties of middle management in the service.

During brief remarks, Minister Benn commended the members of the Fire Service for their diligence and dedication to the nation.

Further, he added, “apart from having facilities, assets, and being fit for purpose, the most important thing is leadership, initiative, and quality of delivery of service in relation to engagement when we are called into action and how well we are prepared”.

Chief Fire Officer (ag) Gregory Wickham, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Dwayne Scotland and Divisional Officer Administration Haimchandra Persaud, among other Station Officers and Sub Officers were in attendance.
