The Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn, today October 02nd, 2022, attended a Religious Service hosted by the Guyana Fire Service(GFS) in observance of their 48th Fire Prevention Week Anniversary, under the theme, “Working Together as One Guyana to Prevent Fires”.
The religious service also commemorates the the Guyana Fire Service 65th anniversary which will be observed on the 12th October. Additionally, it officially commence of the month of Fire Prevention observances and activities.
The Service opened with inspirational music by the Guyana Police Force Band, followed by the draping of the Guyana Fire Service Flag by the Marching on of the Colour Party.
The Firefighters’ Prayer was then recited by all and there were various musical renditions by the Guyana Fire Service Choir, followed by an interpretive dance by Leading Firewoman Hinckson.
There were prayers by members of the GFS and sermons by Mr. Sudama Marat from the Guyana Pandit Council, Mr. Asif Williams from the CIOG and Dr. Wilbert Lee from the First Assembly of God Church, representing Guyana’s three main religions.
The Religious Service came to a close with the vote of thanks by Divisional Officer H. Persaud, who thanked everyone for their participation and implored to practice fire safety measures to prevent lost of life and property as ‘One Guyana’.
During the the 48th Fire Prevention week Anniversary, the GFS will be engaging in various activities such as Outreaches, Fire Safety Exhibition, Live Demonstration on how to use a fire extinguisher, school visits, Fire safety talks, a Fire Safety Fair & Exhibition among other activities. These activities will be done at Fire Stations and in communities in all ten Administrative Regions across Guyana.
Also in attendance were Mayor of Georgetown His Worship Pandit Ubraj Narine, Major Rodney Guyana Defence Force, Assistant Superintendent Joseph Guyana Police Force, Mr. Nicklon Elliot Director of Prison, Member of the Fire Recruitment Board, Members of the Fire Advisory Board, special invitees and members of the Guyana Fire Service.
