The Guyana Fire Service Celebrates 65th Anniversary with March Pass Parade

The Guyana Fire Service’s 65th anniversary was celebrated earlier today, October 12th, 2022, with a March Pass Parade featuring the firefighters, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) ranks and firefighting apparatus and EMT Ambulances.
The parade, which was led by the Guyana Police Force Band, stepped off from the Square of the Revolution around 07:15hrs. It continued onto Brickdam, where the ‘Eyes Right Salute’ was given to the Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn, Permanent Secretary, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas and Fire Chief (ag) Mr. Gregory Wickham, by the Platoons in front of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Parade ended at the Guyana Fire Service Headquarters, Stabroek, Georgetown.
Minister Benn, during brief remarks, indicated that today’s parade also speaks to the fire observance month and, at this particular point in time, developing the esprit de corps while building awareness for the public in respect of fire safety and rescue services.
Furthermore, he stated, in new environment, our continued trust in the PPP/C Government is in expanding our capabilities, assets and our readiness to assure safety to the public with respect to issues related to fire, health and rescue services. Additionally, in ensuring self-wellbeing and taking our country forward at this particular point in time of our history, when we are required to the new challenges in relation to issues of the fire safety.
To this end, we are looking forward to new assets. We’re looking forward to the completion and the opening of the new fire stations establishing footprints in interior areas. We are also looking forward to the presence of new ambulance services on the coast and, hopefully soon, in particular, the populated areas of the interior and more training, better training with better engagement and better awareness. Also, better certification in terms of the volume of buildings, new buildings and new industrial facilities which are being developed now in our country, Mr. Benn highlighted.
