The Civil Defense Commission made a donation to the Guyana Fire Service, which was accepted by Chief Fire Officer Gregory Wickham.
In his brief remarks, the Director General of the CDC, Col. (Ret’d) Nazrul Hussain, said it is the Commission’s goal to assist the Guyana Fire Service in maintaining operational readiness in the areas of fire response and rescue, as well as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response.
The donated gifts included a stretcher, a number of face masks, hand sanitizers, and special firefighting boots.
Chief Fire Officer Wickham expressed gratitude for the donations and said that the gesture will strengthen the long-standing relationship between the GFS and CDC.
He also committed that more training will be conducted with regard to incident command, search and rescue, and first aid, as these are the pillars of the fire department’s foundation.
