PS Ally Conducts Site Inspection at New Guyana Police Force Training Academy

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Andre Ally, conducted a site inspection earlier today (May 22, 2025), at the new Guyana Police Force Training Academy along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing police training and capacity-building.
Accompanied by Engineers from the Ministry’s project department, PS Ally received detailed progress updates across the six key components of the academy under phase 1. PS Ally expressed satisfaction with the work completed thus far and reiterated the importance of efficiency and adherence to project timelines.
“The Dora Academy will serve as a cornerstone in developing a modern, competent, and professional police force, equipped to meet the evolving demands of national security and public safety,” Mr. Ally stated.
Spanning 228.85 acres, the new state-of-the-art facility will feature advanced training classrooms, administrative offices, and residential accommodations. The Ministry purposefully designed the academy to provide comprehensive training, administrative support, and comfortable lodging, all aimed at cultivating a world-class police force that serves and protects with professionalism and skill.
Construction of the Instructors Building is currently 85% complete, with a contract sum exceeding G$61 million. This building will house key training personnel and provide dedicated office and preparation spaces for instructors overseeing police training programmes. Meanwhile, the main training school, a critical component of the academy, is 15% complete on a project valued at over G$130 million. Once finished, it will offer modern classrooms and facilities designed to support a rigorous and dynamic training curriculum.
The Female Barracks, which reflects the Ministry’s commitment to inclusivity and gender equity, is 79% complete and is being constructed at an estimated cost of over G$84 million. This facility will provide safe, secure, and comfortable accommodation for female police trainees.
Additionally, the lecture hall, budgeted at over G$87 million, has reached 10% completion. It will be used for seminars, presentations, and large training sessions, complementing the main training school by providing additional space for instruction and professional development.
PS Ally also received a briefing on the kitchen facility, a vital support component valued at over G$181 million, and on the completed access way construction, valued at G$102 million, which will facilitate the smooth entry and exit to the academy grounds.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will maintain close oversight to ensure quality work and timely project completion. The Dora Police Training Academy marks a transformative step in modernizing Guyana’s law enforcement. The Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to deliver a world-class facility that will strengthen national security and public safety for years to come.
