His Excellency President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and Prime Minister Hon. Brigadier (Ret’d) Mr. Mark Phillips, joined by Hon. Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Robeson Benn, other government ministers, and members of the diplomatic corps, commissioned the newly acquired Metal Shark Vessel named GDFS Shahoud at the Coast Guard Headquarters, Ramp Road, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The President commissioned the Coast Guard Vessel ‘GDFS Shahoud’ in honour of Colonel Michael Shahoud, one of the five officers who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash last December.
The 115 Defiant monohull patrol vessel was constructed by the renowned American shipbuilding company Metal Shark Boats, renowned for its high-quality and durable maritime vessels.
The commissioning ceremony marked a significant milestone in bolstering Guyana’s coastal defense and maritime security capabilities.
