Permanent Secretary Visits Ogle and West Ruimveldt Fire Stations

Construction works at the new Fire Station at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Ogle, which commenced in February 2022 at an estimated cost of over G$76 million, is moving a pace and has achieved practical completion.

This was related to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ms. Mae Toussaint Thomas, during her capital project inspection on March 24, 2023.

The new state-of-the-art fire station will be equipped with modern amenities, which include a control room, office space for senior officers and administrative staff, a gym, a kitchen, a dining area, and a conference room. The station will be able to house two (2) fire tenders and one (1) ambulance, and it will include a fire suppression system with sprinklers, detectors, and a hose reel.

Additionally, tarmac for training, driveways, and underground electrical and plumbing connections to buildings from the main road will be implemented.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the fire station will be equipped in accordance with the standards and recommendations for practice contained in International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 14 Aerodromes and ICAO Doc 9137 Airport Service Manual to provide Rescue and Firefighting Services at the Eugene. F. Correia International Airport, Ogle, the same as the one currently in operation.

The Permanent Secretary also inspected the ongoing rehabilitation works on the workshop and Fire Station at West Ruimveldt.

The rehabilitation work, which is 60 percent complete, is being done at a sum of over G$16 million. The works include construction of a trestle, capping of the yard and workshop, repainting, plumbing, and electrical.
