Ministry of Home Affairs’ Permanent Secretary, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas continued her capital projects inspection on Monday, September 26, at the Lusignan Prison. The visit is a continuation of last week’s visits by the Permanent Secretary where she inspected the progress of various projects being spearheaded by the Ministry.
Projects Inspections allows the Ministry of Home Affairs to preview the ongoing works being done under the Ministry and to witness the progress and success of each project.
On this visit, Permanent Secretary Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas was given a walk through of Lusignan Prison lots one (1) to three (3) which is currently under reconstruction. Where lots 1 and 3 are at Practical Completion while works are still ongoing in lot two (2).
The Permanent Secretary and team, then examined the construction of Cell blocks Lots four (4) – six (6). Lot six (6) is ahead of schedule but lots four (4) and (5) are awaiting the arrival of steel cells from North America.
The Vocational School which is about 75% completed and on schedule was also visited.
Permanent Secretary Ms. Thomas then inspected construction of the Senior Officer’s Living Quarters to the utmost east of the prison facility where the project is a month behind schedule and the contractor received a stern warning from the Permanent Secretary to accelerate the works progress.
Progressing smoothly at 55% is the Construction of the outer perimeter fence which was also inspected.
The Infirmary Annex was also examined and is at practical Completion.
The female prison was lastly visited which is also awaiting the shipment of steel cells from North America. Works at this building are at 30% completion.
Projects Inspections will continue to be conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs and supporting bodies, as the completion date draws near.
