The Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn, today, August 26, 2022, officially declared the Moruca Expo 2022 opened.
The opening ceremony was held at the Waramuri Recreational Centre, Region 1.
The expo, held under the theme, “Promoting and Empowering- For a Prosperous and Transformed Moruca”, is a two-day event from August 26- 27 with a series of activities, commencing with the day of sports and concluding with the crowning of the Miss Moruca 2022.
The Minister, during his feature address, urged residents, primarily youths, to take up careers in the Extractive Industries and the Joint Forces. He noted community relations must be built to further socio-economic and community development.
The Day of Sports opened with the lighting of the symbolic torch by national 5000 meters runner Ricky Williams. Additionally, teams from Manawarin, Waramuri, Santa Rosa, Kwebana, Assakata, Warapoka, Santa Cruz, and Waikrebi competed in a 5-a-side male and female football and volleyball.
Day two activities include an exhibition of products from the villages at Kumaka Recreational Ground as well as traditional events such as Marathon, cassava grating, Pepper pot eating, ouake making, otucuma eating, archery, tibisiri stripping, pepper pot making, cassava bread baking, firewood bursting, carb catching, cassava pone eating and sweet fly drinking, among other games.
Finally, the Moruca Expo will come close, with eight delegates competing for the Miss Moruca 2022 crown.
