Ministers Benn and Bharrat Visit Lethem Police Station

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, Hon. Robeson Benn, Minister of Home Affairs, and Hon. Vickram Bharrat, Minister of Natural Resources, paid a visit to the Lethem Police Station. Accompanying them were Mr. Newell Dennison, Commissioner of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), and other officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
This visit followed a stakeholder engagement held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, with the Rupununi Miners Association and other miners operating in the Marudi Mountain area of Region 9. The engagement aimed to address the concerns and issues faced by the local mining community.
The Ministers and officials were warmly received by Commander Rose, who facilitated the visit of the police station. The purpose of the visit was to gain firsthand insight into the operations and challenges faced by the law enforcement personnel serving in the region.
During the tour of the facilities, Minister Benn and Minister Bharrat had the opportunity to interact with the police officers and express their appreciation for their dedicated service in upholding law and order in the remote areas of the region.
Minister Benn commended the dedication and vigilance of the police officers, emphasising the critical role they play in maintaining law and order in the region.
Minister Benn also assured the ranks of the government’s unwavering support in providing the necessary resources and training to enhance their capabilities further.
