Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn, M.P., is attending a Trafficking in Persons Training for Immigration Officers on Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Guyana Police Force Officers’ Training Centre, Eve-Leary.

The Ministerial Taskforce on trafficking in persons is conducting this course and seeks to train 40–50 immigration officers from the Guyana Police Force Immigration Department.

This training seeks to equip Immigration Officers with the requisite knowledge on the indicators of human trafficking and smuggling.

The primary objectives of this training is to implement preventative measures to curb the increasing instances of Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling across borders; to increase the number of reported suspected acts of human trafficking to the national hotline, and to retrain Immigration Officers on the indicators of Trafficking in Persons/ Human Trafficking, Human Smuggling, along with issues related to irregular migration and national policies.
