The Government of Guyana, through the Office of the Prime Minister and the Guyana Police Force, officially inaugurated the Guyana Cyber In-Country Sensitization and Training 2023 on Thursday, December 07th, 2023, at the Police Officers’ Mess on Young Street, Georgetown. The two-day event, facilitated by CARICOM IMPACTS and financed by the European Union, aims to bolster the nation’s cybersecurity resilience.
The Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn, attended the opening ceremony and emphasized the critical importance of cybersecurity in this modern era. The event brings together key stakeholders, experts and policymakers to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in the field of cybersecurity.
Scheduled to run from December 7-8, 2023, the training programme will cover a spectrum of topics, including cybersecurity trends, capacity building and notable achievements in the realm of digital security. The sessions are designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the current cyber threat landscape and equip them with practical skills to navigate and mitigate potential risks.
Distinguished guests at the opening ceremony included Hon. Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, Mr. Joan Nadal Sastre, Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Guyana, Mr. Earl Harris, Assistant Director, Corporate Services at CARICOM IMPACTS, Mr. Clifton Hicken, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kevin Pilgrim, Deputy Director of the Guyana Prison Services, Mr. Ravindradat Budhram, Deputy Commissioner “Operations,” along with other senior and junior police officers and special invitees.
The presence of such esteemed figures underscores the collaborative effort and commitment to enhancing cybersecurity measures in Guyana. The Honourable Minister expressed gratitude to CARICOM IMPACTS and the European Union for their crucial support in making this training initiative possible.
