The signing of the Memoranda of Understandings (MoU) comes as Guyana is finalising its preparation for the Mutual Evaluation Exercise, which will be conducted from September 4 to 15, 2023, by the Caribbean Financial Action Taskforce (CFATF).
The agreement aims to enhance cooperation, co-ordination, and information sharing between the parties and FIU to fulfil their respective obligations related to AML/CFT compliance. This includes ensuring that applicable laws are followed by relevant entities.
During brief remarks, the Hon. Mohabir Anil Nandlall SC MP, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, and the Chairman of Guyana’s AML/CFT National Taskforce thanked participants for their hard work in preparing for this nationally important exercise.
Minister Nandlall also cautioned about the consequences that can be imposed if Guyana’s AML/CFT architecture is found to be inadequate or inefficient.
