The Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andre Ally, attended the Guyana Police Force Symposium at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe, Eve Leary. This event is part of the Force’s 185th anniversary celebrations.
The symposium, held under the theme “Modernizing Policing by Balancing Technology, Community Engagement, and Global Best Practices,” is a one-day event featuring a series of discussions and Q&A sessions. Topics include “Community Policing: Building Public Trust and Partnerships,” focusing on strengthening relationships between the police force and the community, tackling the growing threats of cybercrime, and other selected topics aimed at bridging the gap between the Guyana Police Force and the communities. The sessions also address combating crime, road fatalities, and incidents.
The objective of the symposium is to equip officers with the necessary skills and expertise to provide effective policing in today’s evolving landscape.
The opening of the symposium was attended by prominent figures including Mr. Clifton Hicken, Commissioner of Police; Capt. Jerry Gouveia, National Security Advisor; Mrs. Shalimar Hack, Director of Public Prosecutions; Mr. Patrick Findlay, Chairman of the Police Service Commission; Deputy Commissioners; Police Commanders from all twelve Regional Police Divisions; members of the Diplomatic Corps; senior police officers; staff from the Ministry of Home Affairs; and special invitees.
