Guyana marks its 57th Anniversary of Independence with a night of prayer and reflection.

Guyana observed its 57th Independence Anniversary at the Tabatinga Ground, Lethem Region Nine.

This year’s anniversary was transformed into an evening of prayer and reflection to honour the nineteen children who lost their lives in the tragic Mahdia Secondary School Dorm Fire.

Hon. Robeson Benn, M.P., Minister of Home Affairs accompanied His Excellency, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and his family; Prime Minister, Hon. Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips; other cabinet members, members of the Diplomatic Corp, the Joint Services, other dignitaries, and citizens in Region Nine for the observance.

Prayers were offered by representatives of the Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities and in the indigenous Wapichan language, along with several cultural pieces, followed by the hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead and a memoriam of fireworks.
