(Sunday, October 1, 2023), Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn, M.P., attended a religious service hosted by the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) in observance of their 49th Fire Prevention anniversary, under the theme, “For the Future of Our Nation, Practice Fire Safety and Prevention”, at the Guyana Fire Service Headquarters, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.
The religious service featured the heartfelt recitation of the Firefighters’ Prayer, along with Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and an indigenous prayer led by GFS members.
Performances by the Guyana Police Force’s Military Band M.S., the Guyana Fire Service Choir, interpretive dance performances by EMT C. Adolph and Firewoman Hinckson, along with a special rendition by EMT D. Edwards.
Inspirational sermons were delivered by esteemed leaders from Guyana’s three main religions Mr. Rajindra Ramnauth from the Guyana Pandit Council, Mr. Asif Williams from the CIOG, and Dr. Wilbert Lee from the First Assembly of God Church.
Fire prevention week is aimed at sensitizing and educating members of the public about fire safety, fire prevention, and their importance, all in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires.
Over the next few days, the Guyana Fire Service will be carrying out a number of activities in celebration of the 49th Fire Prevention Week Anniversary, such as engaging in community outreaches, mini fire safety exhibitions, live demonstrations on how to use a fire extinguisher, school visits, and fire safety talks, among other activities.
