The Ministry of Home Affairs, last Friday (September 19), bid farewell to two stalwart public servants, Mr. Shelton Daniels and Mr. Alvin Fredericks, whose combined careers span over six decades of dedicated service to the people of Guyana.
Mr. Daniels, a veteran of approximately 37 years in the public service, began his career as a temporary clerk at the Ministry of Education and went on to serve across multiple ministries, including Finance, Trade, Tourism & Industry, Culture & Sports, Labor, Social Protection, and ultimately Home Affairs, where he retired as Assistant Chief Administrative Officer
Mr. Fredericks contributed 25 years of service, starting at the National Service and later retiring as Crop Attendent at the New Opportunity Corps (NOC). His expertise and commitment saw him re-employed to continue providing vital support at the institution
Permanent Secretary Ms. Andre Ally praised both men for their lifelong commitment, “Your decades of service have helped shape not just the Ministry of Home Affairs, but the public service at large. You have laid strong foundations on which future generations can build. Your leadership, dedication, and mentoring of others will leave a lasting mark on this ministry and on the lives of those you’ve guided.”
The Principal Personnel Officer, Ms. Eureka Duncan added, “Today we honor not only your years of duty but the impact you’ve made. You have touched lives, mentored colleagues, and demonstrated what true public service means. On behalf of the Ministry, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your invaluable contributions.”
In his remarks, Mr. Daniels reflected on his wide-ranging career and continuing passion for mentoring youth, “It has been a joy to serve. While I may be retiring, my interest in supporting at-risk youths and in strengthening public service will continue. Recognition like this makes me proud, and I leave knowing I gave my best.”
Mr. Fredericks expressed his gratitude for the recognition, “I am deeply thankful for this honor. Working within the public service has been more than a career; it has been a calling. I am happy to have contributed to the development of the Ministry and to continue offering my support where needed.”
The Ministry extends its best wishes to both retirees as they embark on this new chapter, confident that their influence and mentorship will continue to inspire.
