During the community outreach held earlier today (May 20th, 2025) in Mosquito Hall, Mahaica, Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon’ble Robeson Benn, addressed a range of pressing security and community concerns while also highlighting the Ministry’s flagship national initiative, the “Do the Right Thing” Campaign.
The campaign, developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, is designed to promote a culture of lawfulness, integrity, responsibility, and community consciousness across Guyana. It aligns with the Ministry’s overarching mission to “Increase the Peace” and supports the belief that sustained national development is only possible within an environment that is secure, stable, and rooted in respect for the rule of law.
Minister Benn underscored the campaign’s multi-faceted approach, which seeks to engage citizens at all levels, individual, household, community, and institutional, in the shared responsibility of creating a safer, more harmonious society. The initiative calls on all Guyanese to consistently make ethical and constructive choices in both private and public life.
“As Guyana continues to experience rapid economic, social, and infrastructural transformation, it is vital that this progress is not derailed by unlawful or irresponsible behaviour,” Minister Benn stated. “Issues such as road accidents, violent crime, and disorder not only threaten public safety but also diminish our collective quality of life.”
The “Do the Right Thing” Campaign is focused on:
• Instilling a strong sense of civic duty and personal accountability;
• Promoting values of respect, honesty, and social responsibility;
• Reducing harmful behaviours such as reckless driving, crime, and violence;
• Strengthening collaboration between communities and law enforcement;
• Fostering national unity through a shared moral and social vision.
As part of the campaign’s focus on road safety, Minister Benn distributed motorcycle helmets and other branded materials to residents, reinforcing the importance of personal responsibility on the nation’s roads.
The Minister encouraged the residents to become active participants in securing Guyana’s future through lawful and ethical conduct.
