Permanent Secretary Conducts Site Visit of Capital Projects.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Mr. Andre Ally, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, conducted an inspection of several critical capital projects aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Guyana Police Force.

The visit included the construction of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, the re-construction of the male barracks of the Police Training School, the re-construction of the Tactical Service Unit (TSU) Headquarters, the re-construction of the Special Constabulary Headquarters, and the construction of the Ruimveldt Police Station Marine Boat House and Stelling.

During the site visit, Mr. Ally received updates on the progress of each project.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters is progressing steadily. Currently, it is at 41 per cent completion. This new three-story building, with an allocated budget of over G$198 million, will consolidate critical units, making investigations more efficient.

The Tactical Service Unit (TSU) Headquarters is making impressive progress, with the steel structure now complete. Currently, it is at 52 per cent completion. This project, with a budget of over G$296 million, will result in a three-story building that will provide modern facilities while also improving operational effectiveness.

The reconstruction of the Special Constabulary Headquarters is at an advanced stage, with the internal and external walls on both the ground floor and first floor nearing completion. It is currently at 75 per cent completion, with a budget of over G$146 million.

The reconstruction of the male barracks at the Police Training School in Eve Leary is ongoing, with unforeseen foundation issues causing delays. Currently, this project is at 3 per cent completion, with a budget of over G$398 million.

The Ruimveldt Police Station Marine Boat House and Stelling project is now at 65 per cent completion. Ongoing works include roof beams, block laying, and wharf repairs. Upon completion, this project, with a budget of approximately G$47 million, will offer upgrades to enhance marine policing capabilities.

Mr. Andre Ally’s visit was aimed at providing valuable insights into the progress of these significant law enforcement infrastructure projects, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving the facilities and resources available to the Guyana Police Force
