CANU Destroys 595.4612kg of Illegal Drugs

The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) on January 14th, 2023 destroyed 140.6882 kg and 454.773 kg of seized cocaine and marijuana, respectively.

The cases for which the narcotics were kept for evidence have all been concluded in the Magistrates court.

The Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn witnessed the burning exercise.

The head of CANU, Mr. James Singh, stated that the quantity of narcotics burnt today is just a fraction of the amount of drugs seized for the year 2022.

Overall, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit seized an aggregate 3,403.68 kgs of narcotic from various categories, which represents a 68.26% increase relative to 2,022.88 kgs in 2021
