The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas, earlier today, September 21st 2022, conducted her quarterly capital project inspection. The projects included phases one and two of the extension to the Ministry Secretariat and a secure parking lot at Homestretch Avenue. Ms. Thomas also visited the Central Immigration and Passport Office.
Although the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn, M.P, visits all projects under the Ministry; these visits facilitate the Permanent Secretary with a first-hand update of the ongoing projects.
The inspection commenced at phase one and phase two of the extension being done on the eastern side of the Ministry of Home Affairs Secretariat Building.
The Ministry’s engineers and the building contractor gave her a walkthrough indicating that works on phase one are approximately 90 per cent completed with all civil and plumbing works completed, while phase two is progressing smoothly at approximately 60 per cent completion.
The secure parking lot at Homestretch Avenue is currently at a 30 per cent completion, with the fencing work nearing completion and sand filling soon to commence.
A condition assessment was done at the Central Immigration and Passport office. The Permanent Secretary and Engineer team was given a walk-through by the Deputy Immigration Officer, Mr. Stephen Telford and staff and was shown areas in and around the building that needs attention.
Over the next few days, the Permanent Secretary will be visiting other projects which are currently under construction.
