81.8M Equipment boost to the Guyana Fire Service
The Ministry of Home Affairs remains steadfast in its commitment to providing a safer and more secure Guyana. On that note, through the Government of Guyana, the Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn, today, January 4, 2023, handed over several vehicles to the Guyana Fire Service.
The vehicles include two (2) excavators, a wheeled trailer, one SUV, three (3) double cab pickups, one (1) motorcycle and five (5) bicycles, all to the tune of G$81.8M.
These assets will lend support and improve the firefighting capabilities of the Guyana Fire Service.
During his brief remarks, Minister Benn urged the Fire Officers always to be properly outfitted with their safety gear when fighting fires while also alluding to a new firefighting posture for the Guyana Fire Service.
While sternly addressing the ranks, Minister Benn added that the equipment should be properly maintained, cared for and kept in a pristine condition.
Chief Fire Officer (ag), Mr. Gregory Wickham, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Home Affairs for their continued commitment to the development of the Guyana Fire Service by giving them access to more equipment and reiterated Minister Benn’s vision for a new modus operandi. He noted that this would allow the Guyana Fire Service to follow and keep within the expected standard while also being better equipped to serve the people of Guyana.
