50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Guyana and China

Last evening, the Honourable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn, joined His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Guyana and China at a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy.

The reception, which was held at the Pegasus Suites Banquet Hall, featured the unveiling of a limited-edition commemorative stamp, and a commemorative rum was launched.

Diplomatic relations between the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and the People’s Republic of China were established on June 27, 1972. At the time, Guyana was the only English-speaking country in the Caribbean to forge diplomatic ties with China.

Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d), the Honourable Mark Phillips; Vice President, the Honourable Dr Bharrat Jagdeo; several other Government Ministers, members of the Diplomatic Corps and representatives from the business community were also at the event.
