With a key focus of upskilling and equipping firefighters with the requisite skills to effectively deliver on the job, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) has strategically conducted two weeks of intense Bronto Skylift training, where twenty-six firefighters received specialized training in the Bronto Skylift fire appliance platform. The training was facilitated by Mr. Jari Kayhko from the Angloco Company in Finland and was held at the Guyana Fire headquarters from February 10-21, 2025.
During the training firefighters were empowered with knowledge of both the technical and mechanical composition of the skylift, and how to utilize the rare and cage in rescue operations.
The training focused primarily on the operation, maintenance, and repairs of the Bronto Skylift as well as the following key areas.
β€’ Servicing of the skylift hydraulic and air system
β€’ Servicing of the engine
β€’ General and emergency operation of the skylift
β€’ Key inspection points of the skylift
The Bronto Skylift is a specialized fire truck that is equipped with an extendable aerial platform that enables firefighters to easily access high-rise buildings and other difficult areas during fire and rescue operations.
Chief Fire Officer Mr. Gregory Wickham during brief remarks at the conclusion of the training, expressed special thanks to the Angloco Company for supporting the GFS in its training needs. He noted that the critical nature of the training will enhance firefighters’ capabilities during fire and rescue operations. Firefighters were also encouraged to apply the knowledge gained, to take initiative, and to serve with confidence, excellence and professionalism.
The Guyana Fire Service is extremely grateful to the Government of Guyana for investing in two Bronto Skylift which currently enables the GFS to better serve the people of Guyana.
